My EBDM

We have read a significant amount regarding evidence. However, evidence-based decision making and practice boils down to OUR ….yours and mine….application of what we have read.

For this discussion forum, please answer the following questions in 150 words, or more:

As a Health or Service provider how do you make certain that your clients receive, evidenced-based information and care?
What sources would you/do you refer them to, and how would you/do you help them to understand the importance and value of evidence-based information, practice and decision-making? In other words, how would you explain the concept of evidence-based practice to your patients/clients?
What constrains your evidenced based behaviors…in other words, what factors make it difficult for you to use evidence based behaviors?
This course is about recognizing and using evidence. So, in order to earn full points, you will need to support each of your postings with the appropriate evidence.

Module 2 Discussion 2

5 POINTS

Systematic Reviews

As we learned in this module Systematic Reviews differ from Literature Reviews in that Systematic Reviews use a multitude of articles to review a specific topic. Learning the importance of, and ability to access them, will benefit you greatly as you move forward in your career. Systematic Reviews can help you stay current in your field and allow you to review a great deal of new research information that is constantly entering the field, efficiently and effectively.

Please go to the COCHRANE REVIEWS (abstract and summaries) using the link below. Look around this extremely interesting site and see if you can find a Systematic Review that relates in some way to the research problem you identified in Module 1.

If you are unable to find a COCHRANE REVIEW (abstract and summaries) that relates in some way to your proposed experiment, locate a COCHRANE REVIEW (abstract and summaries) that interests you. Be sure to tell us why you are choosing a new topic that differs from your first module post.

Do NOT buy the full review

Go to the COCHRANE REVIEWS website and click on the Browse free summaries link: https://www-cochranelibrary-com.db24.linccweb.org/ (opens in new tab)

If you have difficulty accessing the database of reviews, be sure to contact the HEC librarians for assistance.

Tip: as you read through the “evidence” summary, note that you can point your cursor at a number of word with dotted underlines in order to see detailed explanations for their meaning or relevance. This is an excellent tool to help you gain further understanding of many important concepts related to the study itself, as well as Research concepts in general. Be sure to spend some time with this. I think that you will find that it adds more tools to your Research toolbox.

Please POST your answers to the following questions. All questions must be answered for full credit. Remember to provide citations and references.

What were you curious about on the Problems posting forum in Module 1? OR what health care topic interests you, and why you chose a new topic?
Which Cochrane Review did you choose to read?
What were the findings of this systematic review?
What do these findings mean to you?
To conclude your posting on this topic, please post the URL that will take us directly to the review you assessed.
Remember, this course is about recognizing and using evidence. So, in order to earn full points, you will need to support each of your postings with the appropriate evidence.

Module 3 Discussion 1

5 POINTS

IV, DV, EV

Now it is time for you to apply the concepts.

Go back to your Problems posting forum in Module 1. Copy and paste your original or edited problem statement here!
Please POST your answers to each of the following questions:

What is/are your IVs?
What is/are your DVs?
Identify possible EVs that could impact your DV.
In order to increase the validity of your study, tell us how you would control your study to eliminate the impact of the EV s on your DV.
Please respond to at least one of your classmates by suggesting an additional EV that they may not have thought of.
Do not forget….be original; if your idea has been mentioned, think of another. There are generally an unlimited number of EVs due to the fact that we can never totally eliminate all things that might impact a relationship between variables.
This course is about recognizing and using evidence. So, in order to earn full points, you will need to support each of your postings with the appropriate evidence.

Problem Statement

Does the adoption of digital technology in providing mental health service affect access among vulnerable populations in the US?

The problem statement meets the first criterion because it portrays an inherent relationship between the variables of digital technology use and access among vulnerable populations.

Similarly, the use of simple words and restriction of variables makes it clear and concise, thus reducing the potential for ambiguity.

Still, the problem statement allows for empirical testing because it implies a potential relationship between the two variables identified. It provides a claim which can be investigated through empirical testing.

The problem statement is also written in a single sentence which communicates the perceived relationship between the two variables.

The statement also identifies the desired outcome, which is lacking at present, and seeks to provide an explanation of its causes. The desired outcome, in this case, is the accessibility of mental health services for vulnerable populations.

Purpose of Study

The proposed study seeks to identify the influence of digital mental health services on the access of such services to vulnerable populations (Scheuller et al., 2019). In this regard, the study hopes to identify the potential implications of shifting to digital mental health services on vulnerable populations.

Module 4 Discussion 1: Collecting Reliable Data in my Professional Setting

5 POINTS

Collecting Reliable Data in my Professional Setting

Name and describe one data collection instrument that is used in YOUR field. It does not have to be your current field.
Important NOTE: this discussion is about the observer’s reliability when using the instrument, NOT the instrument’s reliability…see below.
How do you, OR would you, assure interobserver reliability when using this instrument? Please describe thoroughly.
How do you, OR would you, assure intraobserver reliability when using this instrument? Please describe thoroughly.
Respond to at least two of your peers’ posts.
Note: In spite of the fact that you are selecting a data collection INSTRUMENT for this posting, this concept is about the OBSERVER’S reliability when using this instrument.

For example, as the observer, a Weight Watcher meeting leader might use a data collection instrument such as a digital scale. With that in mind, to answer this forum, the observer would indicate how he/she practices interobserver reliability with all of the other WW meeting leaders at one location: they all use the same scale, they all allow shoes to come off and pockets to be emptied; they all weigh at the beginning of the meeting, etc. In other words, the leaders calibrate how they “observe” the data they are collecting with the data collection instrument.

In contrast, if the observer is the only person that is overseeing the data collection at a meeting, he/she may describe intraraterrelibility as their standard routine of data collection (each and every time) – having everyone stand on the same place on the scale, having everyone empty their pockets, weighing everyone at the beginning of the meeting. So, to assure that the observer has intraobserver reliability, he/she standardizes their own methods and to make certain to follow the same methods with everyone that is observed.

This course is about recognizing and using evidence. So, in order to earn full points, you will need to support each of your postings with the appropriate evidence.

Module 5 Discussion 1: Do you know the differences?

5 POINTS

Do you know the Differences?

Students new to research often find some of the terms and concepts confusing as some of the terms may be used interchangeably in different areas of research, such as data and statistics. However, when reviewing scholarly research, it is important to understand the differences between some key terms. [Remember: do not confuse the terms below with tools that are used to analyze the data, such as: SAS, SPSS, SUDAAN, STATA, NVivo, Epi Info, EXCEL., etc. These are the analysis tools that are used analyze the data, they are not statistics or data themselves]

For this discussion, I want you to take on the role of the instructor and explain the difference between the following terms: data, statistics, statistical methods

You may wish go back and visit one of the early topics in the book, Empirical Research, as well as this week’s required reading. Outside reading is also recommended. I want to “hear” that you have a good understanding of these terms and the differences between them as you prepare to complete the next part of your Article Analysis

This course is about recognizing and using evidence. So, in order to earn full points, you will need to support each of your postings with the appropriate evidence, including citations and references as needed.
