Peer Review Guidelines
Criteria for Paragraph Structure:
a) Topic Sentence: Expresses the main idea with connection to section purpose?
b) Unity: Every sentence relates to the main idea?
c) Coherence: Relationship among ideas is meaningful?
d) Adequate Development: Details, examples, explanations support main idea?
Criteria for Integrating Paraphrased Insights from Sources:
a) Build a frame around the Insight. Do not begin or end a paragraph with a quote. How effectively is the Insight presented in a way that is relevant and meaningful to your readers?
b) Include the Insight with a Reporting Structure and include an APA in-text citation for the source. How effectively does the reporting structure show the source of the insight? (According to…; The authors of state that…)
c) Explain the significance of the insight in your own words. Point out why the insight is important to the point you are making? Make a connection to the overall purpose of your individual Research Area and the Team Report?
2) Team Participation Form Instructions
The Project 4b Team Participation Form indicates the proportion of work completed by each member of your Project 4b team. Please fill in each member’s name and amount of work completed toward the project in percent. For example, if your team has four members and each member completed their fair share of the project (oral and written) then each would record 25%. Post this form with the final draft of the Project 4b Team Report.
However, in a case in which the team cannot agree on an equal percentage, each team member can submit an individua form posted with the final team Report. If the team choses this option, each team member must submit an individual form. If a team member prefers not to share the percentages with other team members, they may submit the form privately in a Canvas message to the instructor.
Elements and Sections for the Design Recommendation Report
Your Proposal should contain the following elements/sections, but you may include additional sections or revise some headings, if more appropriate for your proposal.
FRONT MATTER:
Title Page
Include title of proposal, name of client, names of proposal team members, date of submittal (you can use your company logo to create an attractive title page)
Letter of Transmittal (i.e., cover letter to your client)
Executive Summary or Abstract (this goes before Table of Contents)
Briefly summarize (between 150 to 200 words) the purpose of and main points presented in the proposal (what is being proposed, why it should be done, the key outcomes, how much it will cost, how long it will take, and when will it start). The Executive Summary is for the busy reader who does not have time to read the whole proposal. Provide information about the credibility of the authors of the report (SJSU majors).
Table of Contents
Include headings and page numbers.
Introduction
Describe the overall environmental problem based on your background research. How does this problem impact the stakeholders? Which problem areas will each of the individual research sections cover?
REPORT:
Individual Research Sections: Requirements, Prototypes, Recommendations
This section will incorporate the insights from each individual Annotated Bibliography and will contain several in-text citations from peer-reviewed literature. Each team member will follow the Engineering Design Process to organize his/her individual research section, resulting in a specific design recommendation to contribute to the team’s combined sections, including Recommendation, Project Schedule, and Budget.
Describe the PROBLEM focus of your individual research section
Explain the environmental and technical REQUIREMENTS that affect your stakeholders
Provide an overview of the prototype ALTERNATIVES from your research.
Conduct a COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS for each of the prototype alternatives based on the data and insights from your annotated bibliography.
Recommend one of the alternatives based on your cost/benefit analysis and describe the features that meet the stakeholder requirements and provide a viable solution to your individual research problem.
Conclusion: Team Recommendations
Present each of the individual design recommendations and tie them together based on your stakeholders’ priorities. Explain how the design recommendations fit together to address the technical requirements and provide viable solutions for the environmental problems of concern to your stakeholders.
BACK MATTER:
References
Use in-text citations throughout your proposal, and list all references alphabetically at the end. Use correct APA documentation format for in-text citations and for the reference list. Use RefWorks to assist, but be sure to check the formatting.
Appendix A: Project Schedule (Gantt Chart, plus written explanation of chart)
Give a description and a timeline from implementation to completion of your recommended prototype. Begin with the starting date of your prototype implementation, include the milestone (progress) dates, and be sure to include the completion date of the whole project. Appendix B: Project Budget
Provide a written description as well as a table. Refer back to your cost/benefit analysis as you present a cost breakdown and the total cost for implementing the proposal. You should consider direct costs such as materials and equipment. Also consider indirect costs required to run the project, which might include facilities and administrative costs. The numbers can be estimates based on your research.
